At the Drive-In, Busselton, South Western Australia

grafitti at the old Busselton Drive In by artist Ian Mutch. Popcorn, coke and love nostalgia. Huge mural on the bitumen of the drive-in Busselton South Western Australia taken by photographer Christian Fletcher
The latest collaboration with artist Ian Mutch.  An art project exploring storytelling, site and scale.  Portraying the memories and nostalgia of drive-in cinema.  These giant characters were painted by Ian over a series of weeks.  The Busselton Drive-In is no more and has been sold to be turned into a retirement village.   We all have great memories of “the drives".
Here is what Ian has to say about his artwork -

“At the Drive-In”
.
A personal art project, exploring storytelling, site and scale. Portraying the memories and nostalgia of drive-in cinema.
.
Drive-in theaters played an important role bringing together regional towns and communities. Through recent times in 2020, I also wanted to celebrate togetherness.
.
Busselton Drive-In opened back in 1960 and was one of the last in WA to close.
A big thanks to Ron Jones and family.
.
The majority of materials for this land mural were salvaged from donated paints otherwise destined for the tip. Thanks to everyone who helped out!

ps. Drive-ins would be a great place to enjoy a night out while social distancing. 😉
